Where Do You Find Your Ghostwriting Jobs?
By admin | June 15, 2007
Question:
Where would be a good place to start getting clients so I can start writing, I’m still weary of gofreelance.com. I’m weary because I do not have a steady income and wouldn’t want to lose a membership. Probably a stupid question and the answers are probably in your Ghostwriting Uncovered ebook. ( I remember reading the free listing sites in your book.)
How long did it take you to build your clientèle list so that it was steady enough at minimum to pay for memberships.?
Just for a reference, how many articles on keywords or anything else can you personally do in a hour? is 10 articles an hour the ideal goal to get to when ghostwriting?
Thanks and take your time answering, I understand you are busy.

Answer:
Get a freelancer might be the best one to start with as they have so many new jobs being posted daily. Make sure to sign up for their email alerts though. The one thing about this site though is that many of the jobs are low paying but if you get the jobs at least you are getting money and getting some samples for your portfolio. Don’t post these samples online though, just keep them on your computer so if anyone is looking for a sample you can just send them to them.
Eg you can say to potential clients, attached is an article I created for previous client on the subject of…..
10 articles an hour, that’s a big ask especially when you take into consideration the research time. I’ll let you in on a little secret of mine, what I normally do if I have a batch of articles on the same subject is to compile all my research first for all the articles and then all I have to do is type them. Depending on the word count of course it might be possible to get 10 of these done in a hour if you have all your research done first.
With new clients I will do the research for the first article and then send the article off to them to ensure that I am on the right track. After that I will send them articles on a daily basis or if they want them in say batches of 10 I will do that. The most important thing to remember is to try and keep in contact with your client even if it is just to give them an update.
I hate when I outsource some work and don’t hear anything from the person for days, I have no idea where they are at or how they are getting on. Most times a quick email is all it takes even if it is just to say I have completed my research for your articles and will be typing them up in the next couple of days and that you will forward completed articles at the end of each day.
I know it might sound a little lame but believe me it works and I would say that this is how I managed to keep my list of clients.
I would recommend that you sign up for the free websites first and start bidding and once you feel ready sign up for Elance, it is the best place to get jobs.
My list of clients is always growing. When I started getting work via Elance I could end up working with the same person for a year or more on a continuing basis. I also got some clients through word of mouth etc.
Remember I am here to help in anyway that I can.
Just go through the book and sign up for the free sites, the links are all there, and you can start bidding straight away. I think with a couple of them you might need to have $3 in your account but you can do this via paypal. This is just so that you have the freedom to bid on projects and if you get them the $3 is there for the fees.
